I bought this in conjunction with the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Seville & Andalusia. They both work together beautifully. The DK book gives wonderful depth to the area and Steves' book gives a quick and lively look and great tips to specific areas and parts of Seville, Granada and Cordoba. And, he gives great tips to visiting surrounding areas. Both of these will be a great help to me as I have been in the northern part of Spain but not the South.

I use to love rick steves but this trip i felt like every recommended tapas bar was filled with american tourists, it really took away from experiencing the local life. I ended up skipping the recommendations and heading to places filled with locals. Still love the books to use as guides for touring museums etc and tricks in saving time.

I thought this would be helpful esp. the Southern Spain section but Steves skips over the Southern Coast and actually discourages spending any time in the area. the only stop recommended was the town of Narja which is nice but there are many interesting and fun areas on the coast from Malaga east to Almaria. Most of Europe vacations in this area, esp. Germans and Brits. Steves complains that they have ruined the area, which I find very snobbish on his part, since we are all tourist. Before tourist came here in flocks the whole area was tiny fishing villages. To be irritated by tourist is strange since he makes his living off tourism. The Southern coast is best visited after the extremely hot summer months when most people are not on vacation. If you like beach hopping you will love the area with more wilderness then high rises. Many nude beaches are clearly posted, very low key and not creepy. You won't find much English spoken here and after a while you really look forward to chatting with Brits on holiday who are very light hearted and friendly.My Spanish host look though the book and was miffed at how Steves dismisses the whole area. If you dislike the beach then you certainly will find helpful info. about Sevilla and Granada, which are must see cities, but if you have the time try getting to the coast for beach hopping, Cava drinking and seafood. Very relaxing away from the bustle of the cities.

I go to Stockholm 2-3 times per year on business. The content is accurate and the maps are really helpful. Not over or under done for a 2 or 3 day visit, but keep in mind Stockholm has a bunch more to offer beyond this condensed guidebook

We were in Stockholm for a week and this book was all we need to have a fun, filled out list of things to see and do. Perfect size for the lite traveler. The other thing worth noting is that Rick Steve's books are opinionated...its not simply a list of things to see...it gives you a schedule and thoughts on what to see and what to skip.

GET THIS E-BOOK!!! I debated whether it would be worth the money before I took a big month-long trip to Spain this past October/November 2009. I was not disappointed! The most useful feature (there are tons) in the Snapshot city guide e-books are the self-guided tours and walks. There are excursion tips, updated cost, hours, locations, phone numbers, maps, self-guided walking tours in the city...Seriously, it's a no-brainer. Get this e-book. Even if you never use it. For so little money, you can save yourself a world full of headaches. He also points out cool things to see in the city that aren't in other tour books, cool facts and history, and he gives invaluable tips of the good places to go for everything (food, entertainment, museums, neighborhoods, etc). Also, the local free tourist maps they give you are usually anemic by way of detailed, accurate information. Having this little tool as a backup is critical when you may not have time to hunt down bigger books and maps. It also gives you info about surrounding cities you may like to visit, as well as tips on language, money, phoning...Plus, it fits in your pocket (I used it on my iPhone with the Kindle reader). You don't look like a tourist dork reading your iPhone, like you do lugging around maps and books. You look way cooler... I used this guide for Sevilla, Cordoba (a HUGE help since there wasn't alot of helpful city info I could easily locate (tours, etc)). I self navigated thru La Mezquita, and saved a ton of money on formal audio and tour guides (the self-guided tour in the e-book is VERY thorough and comprehensive). It also give you tips to Granada & Gibraltar (I ran out of time to see them). Rick Steves knows how to make a city come alive! You will get your money's worth 10 fold.

Stevens in this little book is concentrating on the most touristed coastal areas on Basque (northern Spain). Not much on the more mountainess smaller villages.

This book was very informative IF you are visiting in summer. I am currently in Stockholm for 19 days visiting my son at college during his Christmas break. I purchased the Kindle version in hopes that it would give us some ideas of things to do. Unfortunately, there is no mention of all the wonderful holiday activities. The history of Stockholm at the beginning of the book was fascinating and if you are traveling to Stockholm in summer, I recommend this book. If you are visiting during winter, not so much.

I picked up four books to read in anticipation of Oathbringer: the Mistborn trilogy and Edgedancer. The Mistborn trilogy isnâ€™t very closely tied to the Stormlight Archive (but it is also the best Sanderson series Iâ€™ve read, so no harm, no foul). Edgedancer, on the other hand, is not only helpful but almost mandatory reading between Words of Radiance and Oathbringer. It is also a fine book itself, although it canâ€™t stand alone.Edgedancer is labeled as â€œStormlight 2.5.â€ Sanderson realized that he hadnâ€™t sufficiently fleshed out a character introduced in an interlude to Words of Radiance (Sanderson is increasingly drawing characters from seemingly unconnected interludes into the main story). Lift is an Edgedancer will the ability to heal and the ability to reduce the friction of her body so she can do things like glide along the ground. An attempt to rob the imperial palace in Azimir results in one of her fellow thieves being named emperor (not a popular job with an assassin killing heads of state).With Gawx as emperor, Lift has a place in Azimir. She flees, nonetheless, to Yeddaw, a city built in a maze of Shardblade-cut trenches. But Yeddaw means an inevitable confrontation with Darkness, the same Surgebinder that was hunting her during the Words of Radiance interlude.Lift is a great character. She is irreverent. Sandersonâ€™s goofy sense of humor usually doesnâ€™t do it for me, but Lift is really funny. Her material even gets a bit *gasp* blue. A highlight is her relationship with her â€œpet Voidbringerâ€ Wyndle (her spren). Sanderson uses her for some cool worldbuilding in addition to her role in the story (she shows up in a quasi-significant role in Oathbringer). She visited the Nightwatcher and uses food, not Stormlight, to fuel her Surgebinding.You might notice that Edgedancer is billed as a novella but listed as 270 pages on Amazon. The hardcover, at least, is pocket-sized so the page count is inflated. As best I can tell, Edgedancer is around 40,000 words, which is right at the Hugo Awards dividing line between the novella and novel categories.

For starters this can be read as a stand alone, I wouldn't recommend reading it that way and implore you to read the first two Stormlight books before diving in as there are some spoilers to the main series. This book has the feel of an epic saga and it is a fun insight into the character, Lift, who first appears in the Stormlight Archives.The reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that the ending left me wanting more satisfaction and answers to the characterâ€™s motivations. The final scenes all happen so quickly and major characters development/changes happen in a few sentences. I will have to go back and read the final scenes again because I'm left with questions at some of the philosophy of the characters we meet and dramatic character shifts. Being left in mostly Lift's POV, the inner struggles and thoughts of the other characters can only be guessed at. Therefore huge leaps of character development are done through her eyes. Seeing as how this book was already longer than it should have been, I can only imagine what I am asking for would have made it that much longer. Choices were made and I definitely would have liked more :).I enjoy the youthfulness and spontaneity of Lift and I am happy to have more one on one time with her character as an extra bonus to the Stormlight Archives. This was an incredible teaser to the upcoming November release and I'm super excited for the third installment, Oathbringer!!

Admittedly, I was one who did not like Lift a whole lot on my first read of Words of Radiance--but she grew on my by my second read-through in preparation for Oathbringer; and when I found out about Edgedancer I decided it would be worth it to spend a little more time with Lift. I was not disappointed. The first two books in the Stormlight Archive really are required reading in order to fully appreciate Edgedancer--and especially to understand character motivations. Additionally, a P.S. by Sanderson at the end of this novella suggests that it's an important read to understand at least one (and maybe two) character developments that are suddenly presented in the upcoming Oathbringer without being treated fully in that novel. In short, if you loved The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, you should love how this novella transports you back to the world of Roshar.

3.5I usually rate Brandon Sanderson's book higher, but I really struggled with the first half of the book. My problem was Lift, the main character, she's young and immature and I don't like her. I get her, the book is very well written, amazing world building, but I spent most of the book frustrated at her for not listening to Wyndle...or anyone.My husband convinced me to keep reading, predicting an amazing character growth, and it did happen. The last chapters were amazing, everything made sense and things were revealed. I really loved WOK and WOR, but I don't feel the need to reread Edgedancer right now, which tells me how much I liked or disliked a book. You should read it though, it's necessary information before reading Oathbringer.

One thing I've noticed about fandom regarding The Stormlight Archives is that there are two groups of readers. One group absolutely loves Lift. The other group not so much. I fall into the latter category.Edgedancer, though brief, was a chore to read. I didn't like Lift in Words of Radiance, but thought that by reading Edgedancer, I'd get a better understanding of her. It only just furthered my dislike of Lift. She mostly just wanders around until the plot tells her what to do next. I found myself unable to last a few chapters without dozing off.If you enjoyed Lift's chapter in Words of Radiance, you'd enjoy this book. If not, skip it.

Mr. Stelman writes his personal story in a way that lets you the reader get a very good understanding of prison life. You get to know what inmates have to deal with daily, physically and emotionally.Even with all he had to deal with, his family was always on his mind and their point of view is also described in the book.While reading I felt connected to the author and his family and could not put the book down until I finished reading. Very touching look into a very personal experience. I will recommend this book to all. Can also be a very good resource for students, teenagers and anyone who has a loved one in prison.

A white collar crime of fraud that cost elderly millions, yet the author spent more time lamenting about his "injustices" and issues with and in the prison system. And how they took away his money to pay the victims. How about the people who he knowingly victimized!? Interesting and detailed account of prison life but I struggled feeling sympathetic for him. Do his book profits go towards restitution?? I would hope so.

A compelling and true story of one personâ€˜s experience in the federal prison system. Stelman writes a straightforward and stark book on what he experienced in jail. His life went from steak and lobster to prison fare overnight. His writing style grabs quickly as he discusses his years in prison, the impact on his family and what he ultimately learns.

Great book, that is fast paced with detailed narrative of the day to day life of a white collar prisoner. Warren really connects by sharing details of what it is like to put himself in a really tough spot. He shares his perspective of prison life with hardened criminals and disconnected prison staff I couldn't put the book down!

Loved this book. If you have ever wanted to know what life is like in the U.S. prison system, this book will give you as close to the experience as you'll ever want to get. Stelman does an amazing job of describing day to day life, the culture, the economy and the emotional rollercoaster of incarceration. Beautifully written.

What a interesting and gripping story, had a hard time putting this one down.

I loved this book because there were a lot of life lessons taught about loss , getting your normal life stripped away from you and getting back up again from the deepest darkest place . The author pulls no punches ,he tells his story of how he spend his days in prison and how he survived it !!!

Great read by a great author I literally could not put it down. It was an interesting read about the authors time in prison and how he survived.

This is a really good book. My only complaint is that it spends a TON of time on landscaping type plants. I was really hoping for a lot more attention paid to how to grow food.Again, that is my only complaint and this is still a really good book.

My favorite maintenance book. I had a copy a long time ago that I lost. Glad to get it again. The book is divided by types of plants (trees, perrennials, vines, etc). Within each section you will find a general guide to the care of that type of plant, a chart of the most common species of that type, and about two pages devoted to each month. Depending on the sections, each month is further divided into several sections including what can be planted, watering, fertilizing, etc. I love it.

SUPER!! A must-have for every Texas gardener!! I bought this for my daughter as they recently purchase a house & she is always asking me questions on gardening. This really spells it out, month by month! I bought a used one as it is in fantastic shape & I'm so into recycling! I encouraged her to make any helpful notations in the margins to assist her with next year's garden.I like this book so much I ordered a used one for myself along with my favorite, organic, "Dirt Doctor"'s book.

After seeing Glennon on Oprah I immediately bought this book for myself and my daughter, who is a young mother. I understood she was a blogger but didn't quite realize this was a collection of her blog posts (or at least it seems like it is), which are probably available on her site. I did enjoy her writing style and sense of humor, especially during the difficult times in life. I also appreciated her religious perspectives which were presented in ways that those who might not agree wouldn't feel judged or wrong (even though I agreed, that's important to me). I have been going through multiple traumatic experiences the past 10 years (husband's addiction and resulting separation and near-divorce) and was so inspired by her interview with Oprah, I was hoping to get some inspiration as I went through the latest roller coaster, breast cancer treatment. Aside from Glennon's addiction, which she dealt with before becoming a mom, and a marital issue that fortunately didn't break them (I wish she'd said how, or maybe that's her next book) it seemed her issues were those of a suburban mom (or First-World Problems as my kids used to call them). I am a suburban mom, but not really into some of the more materialistic things she is, so I didn't really relate to her. What I did envy were her ability to make friends and have such close intimate relationships that are real. When you are diagnosed with cancer, even pre-cancer caught early like me, people react weirdly. You quickly find out who are your real friends and who is willing to have "real" relationships. Unfortunately, I found nearly every blood relative wasn't going to "be there" for me and only had about enough non-blood relatives and friends to count on one hand, which was enough. As a result of their weird reactions, I didn't announce it to anyone beyond my inner circles. I was so disturbed by the realization that most people don't have (or maybe don't know how to have) "real" relationships like Glennon describes. I really hoped to learn how to transform my family relationships by making them more real, because the lack of support was devastating. So maybe I had unrealistic goals because I bought this book after her Oprah interview. She may be at a completely different place now than when she wrote this and I want to learn more from her now as the issues in this book are important ones more suburban moms can relate to, but they really aren't BIG life issues when you really need good close friends and deep relationships that are "real."

Glennon blogs onÂ momastery.comÂ and her brutally honest accounts of her life brought her popularity, then of course, a book deal.Glennon doesn't give two hoots about what others think. She isn't afraid to tell the world she was an alcoholic, a drug addict and a bulimic. And when she finally got rid of all those toxins in her life and embraced her new-found self, she was diagnosed with Lyme disease.Â At one point in her life she even got an abortion. Then she decided to adopt butÂ her adoption plan fell through due to her background.Â So she adopted a highway instead (Yup!).She also wrote of friends, family and strangers who came to her aid when she needed it and/or supported her decisions, impetuous or not. She's very fortunate to be surrounded by people who love her as she is.What makes her stories stand out, to me, is definitely her honesty, almost too honest to be true sometimes. And the fact that she bares her ugly, crazy, messy life out for all to read, is just plain bravery. And the world thanked her for that. Because of her bravery, she gave hope. Because of her kindness, she shed light.Overall it's a pretty good read with some inspiring messages throughout.Â She can be pretty funny, taking the mickey out of Chaos here and there.Â But at times I'm not sure if every detail in her story is true or she's just spicing it up for the sake of readership. Like asking a 3 yo to write down what's she feeling. I don't know any 3 yo who can write. Or when she asked her son to look a bully in the eye. Really? What if the bully ended up hitting him? He's lucky he got off the hook so easily. Just my thoughts.What I got out of this bookÂ Live life with openness and honesty. Openness to embrace the challenges and changes that Life offers. Make whatever you want out of the lemons Life throws you.Â Be honest and true to yourself. Tune out the noise, tune in to your voice. The voice that tells you right from wrong. The voice that only you know is YOU. Just do what gives you joy and peace, because no matter what yo do, people are going to judge anyway.In times of crisis, sift. "...the Greek root of the word crisis is 'to sift', as in to shake out the excesses and leave only what's important." Eliminate the unwanted, keep what matters.Namaste.

Glennon is the most wonderful author I have every read. She's honest, raw, emotional, brilliant and so funny. I stumbled upon her through social media that lead me to her books. I feel like some one actually get's me after reading both her Warrior books. Empaths unite! Her books have made me feel more validated than anything else I've ever ready in my last 34 years. Thank you Glennon for your honesty! Bless you and "brutiful" soul!

I was a little apprehensive about this book but now I highly recommend it. The numerous references to the author's religious faith were just a natural part of her story, without the slightest hint of apostatizing. I respect and I'm happy for the author that her faith is such a support for her, even though it's not useful to me. The remainder of the book was fabulous. Don't read this book if you are easily offended. The author is about as real and honest and personally disclosing as one can be. And being so, provides the kind of support one usually gets only from a dear, long-term, close friend. I will hold onto this book for dipping into for future pick-me-ups!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Filled with supernatural suspense, it reminded me of the early Anne Rice novels. I thought the main characters were interesting and I wanted them to succeed. With a background story, I had never heard of before it was a fresh take the genre. I hope there will be a sequel soon to see what happens next.

I loved this book and I love Cooper :) In fact, every character in this book is special. Howard is a wonderful writer. I highly suggest BLOOD DIVINE to those who appreciate a well-woven story with southern charm, various paranormal elements, adventure, and a sweet romance. Fans of True Blood will devour this book!

As the story opens, "20 years agoâ€, and the main character rides his bike down the long road of the abandoned, creepy plantation that is not so abandoned after all. I was hooked. The story scared me deep in my bones, touched my soul, and invited me to open my heart. Blood Divine is a memorable work where the characters lingers long after the story ends.It reads like classic paranormal/fantasy with a hint of romance and it's impossible to put it down. Blood Divine is an impressive first novel however you approach the story. Written with stunning originality and constructed with witty prose, Blood Divine is the novel we have been waiting for.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I kept thinking I knew how it was going to end but did not expect what happened. I loved the characters and how the mythology was developed.

(Sadly) I finished Blood Divine this morning at 5:23. 11 hours later, I've yet to find adequate words to express how in love with this book and all of the characters... yes, all... I am. Ok, well, maybe not the, oh, I don't want to give anything away! Incredibly well written, completely new take on a very difficult subject(s) to undertake after the many, many attempts by others. A breath of fresh air. Anytime a book has me crying one minute and literally laughing out loud the next and wide-eyed in anticipation the whole way through... Bravo, Greg Howard! Bravo!!!!

It started with a SWOT analysis. These are the types of meetings that were making work lose meaning for me.This time, however, as I read through the SWOT from our employees, I could see a theme. Many of the weaknesses could be explained by people who viewed their jobs as work with no sense of vocation.If we created a community (or sense of â€œkinshipâ€ as Shawn calls it) at work centered around a vocation and service, if we adopted the â€œopen bookâ€ principles, if we went back to just talking to everyone around us with â€œgemba walksâ€ instead of thinking about using surveys almost all of those weaknesses would be addressed. I know this would not be a panacea, and there will always be issues to work on, but if we could do these things, the atmosphere that we work on these issues would be a better one.The second meeting brought up an issue about how we should negotiate terms on a particular venture. In essence, it was about how much profit should we pursue on the venture. The thought paradigm that Shawn mentions many have is â€œas much as you canâ€. But, he talks about how important getting the â€œright priceâ€ or a â€œfair priceâ€ is in the practice of the brothers at Assumption Abbey and I took it to heart as we discussed the issue at the meeting. This is not an altruisitic concept, but rather a sustainability concept.I look forward to where this takes me and our small business and am glad this book came to me when it did.

A few concepts that stick with me from this book: Finding and pursuing your personal and business vocation to find balance and purpose. Keeping your business small so you can see and enjoy the results. Keeping your business focused on excellence so you can find joy in the product. Developing a Rule of Life to help you pursue something bigger than yourself while pursuing the things you find most important.

But it is obviously important in the history of Western Civ and so should be introduced in the college curriculum. My opinion is simply that instructors should consider the Discourse a more accessible text.

The author Vernon does a great job of relating the book to an average middle-lower class African American child growing up. He details examples from his personal life and how basketball has played a big role in where he is today. A lot of individuals are uncertain of what career they want to pursue as they get older. It could be because of single parenting or low finances where most of those kids aren't exposed to a lot are left to believe, dream, and desire about what they see on television or see on the internet. Several analogies and basketball references are used throughout the book to keep you engaged whether you are a basketball fan or not. This book will galvanize you to finally pursue things that you never thought you could and not use race, sex, or religion as an excuse not to obtain those goals. Encourages you to stop making excuses out of fear and uncertainty and execute on your goals to reach your untapped potential. My favorite quote from the book is in Chapter 3 where he mentions,â€ Convenience kills dreams. Persistence fuels them.â€ Take control of your life, sacrifice when needed, donâ€™t confused talent with skills, be accountable for your mistakes, and shoot your shot for all of your dreams. At no point, was I distracted or discouraged from the words, phrases and scriptures used to encourage me to "live my best life." Often with self-help books, you get a barrage of ideas and concepts to consume without much thought behind them. The stories are full of fluff or aren't about the author at all, so it makes it difficult to take heed of the lessons. The Shoot Your Shot Book is the complete opposite. With actual quotes and real life stories told by Vernon himself, you can see how with some work, dedication and perseverance it's possible to live the life you've always wanted and dreamed of. I look forward to referencing this book anytime I feel that I'm in a hard place or if things aren't going my way. I felt that the recaps at the end of each quarter were an especially helpful way to stay focused and were a great reminder of methods to achieve personal well-being. Thank you Vernon for helping me Shoot My Shot and become the best version of myself!

What an inspirational and empowering read! â€œShoot your Shotâ€ contains lessons for the young and old. As I moved through each quarter and approached the end of regulation I was able to identify and reflect on the stages of my almost 65 years on this earth. The bookâ€™s parallels to life experiences were amazing and the analogies and quotes from the athletes were refreshing, If only I had the opportunity to read this book 45 years ago! It is an interesting and easy read, which does not require one to be an athlete or sports fan to understand the messages. My grandson, who is 14 years of age, has enjoyed â€œShoot Your Shotâ€ as much as I have.Kudos and much appreciation to this young writer who has captured how taking a chance or giving your best shot in life can motivate an individual to pursue and accomplish their life goals. This book should have a place in every school, library, therapist office and community center.

The market is over saturated with self help experts, lifestyle gurus, and motivational speakers that are very common place. What I like about Shoot Your Shot is that the author ties his themes together seamlessly with every day practical thinking and realistic application. The concepts and themes are very relate-able and provide a breath of fresh air. You don't have to have a high basketball IQ or even be a fan of the game to understand the concepts the author uses to tie in ideas the author is teaching. The book is a great way to learn life long lessons and teach them back to the younger generation in a language that they understand which is sports. Shot Your Shot is a universal book for all ages and demographics and if you don't take the opportunity to read it your doing yourself a dis justice. I cant wait for the next book from this author....maybe rebounding. Great read.

Shoot Your Shot is a well-written and digestible book for those seeking a read that challenges current thinking. Author does an excellent job of using basketball to communicate key principles of success. Regardless of your career path, there are key principles and values that all successful leaders have in common. These leaders independent of career path did not get there by accident. For example, see Chapter 3, put in the work to prepare yourself for the game. Congratulations, to Vernon for finding his own unique way to encourage others to be successful in all endeavors. Again, I recommend this book to anyone looking to be challenged and encouraged through a very unique communication of successful principles to apply to your life. Wish Vernon all the best in his future endeavors.
