Amazon Best Sellers Rank:

#65,558 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

My main reason for purchasing “Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits” was for the artwork and the huge range of character designs. Lucky for me the premise of the story was very alluring, which made it difficult to put down and sad when the first volume ended. So much so, that I did a search to see if the next manga volume was released and if the manga was made into an anime. There are a few out there that have done this such as “Yona of the Dawn” and “Ao Haru Ride” but then stop suddenly…not sure why.Unfortunately, Amazon is missing the entire first part of season one for this anime Prime Video. I also noticed that the “Original Japanese Version” with English subtitles is missing, which is sad. I like the original Japanese version on anime became of the great care they take in hiring the correct voice actors for their characters. This is something that is overlooked when dubbed in English. Hence, my preference for the original Japanese versions when watching anime. To that end, the main human character, Aoi Tsubaki, has an almost harden soulless expression at times that is difficult to overlook and complements the characters personality perfectly as the reader learns a little of her and her grandfather’s backstories.Another interesting concept is the Crimson Crystal hair ornament that the Ogre “Ōdanna” gave to Aoi. The Nine-Tailed Fox Ayakashi, Ginji, mentions in passing that the Crimson Crystal is a rare crystal that can alter its form. This is a very appealing notion, and one I can’t wait to see how this idea plays out.Even Ginji makes for a very interest character with his ability to alter his appearance and to put Aoi at ease in her current predicaments. Even the hint of Ginji knowing Aoi from when she was little makes for another great mysterious lead-in.So, I originally came for the wonderful artwork by Waco Ioka and the huge array of characters by Laruha and got so much more with a wonderful story by Midori Yuma that leaves you wanting more. This is truly a pretty blending of artist talents.

I really enjoyed the anime so I was thrilled when I saw volume 1 of the manga available. It did not disappoint. Story is great and art and character design are pleasing. I had really wanted to know how this story would continue and will eagerly await future volumes.

Love all the mystery, the magic and the suspense. It reminds of the animated movie Spirited away. The unseen world of monsters and spirits.

Great manga

I was already a fan of this, thanks to the anime, and when I got a chance to read the manga as well, I jumped on it. It is the story of a young woman (she is a university student in this, for a change, not a high school kid, thank god) who gets carried away to the spirit realm to be the ogre king's bride as payment for the deceased grandfather's debts, and who is an independent girl who creates her own path. Aoi is resourceful and mature, who has had a hard childhood from abandonment, and who can see spirits and therefore feeds them to gain their benevolence. Her life in Kakuriyo is off to a rough start in this volume, as she is looked down upon by nearly all the spirits and some even consider her to have insulted their boss (who seems shady and strict as of now). Oh, and the artwork is gorgeous - I love the details on their hair and clothes, and the environment itself. I can't wait to read future installments.

Here are the various elements I've seen in too many other manga:* A nondescript but kind-hearted girl* Takes pity on a mysterious handsome guy* Who kidnaps her to a demon realm where he’s the leader* And demands she marry him* Because her grandfather owes him a debt* And she was orphaned when grandfather died a month ago* And she has the ability to see supernatural creaturesI only tried this series because of the potential for a human girl running an inn for spirits, but there’s so much time and space spent on setup here that I saw very little of anything I was looking for. Aoi strikes me as particularly generic, since she can’t even get mad at her departed grandfather for selling her to the demon lord because of her memories of enjoying her time with him. The only things she has going for her are determination to find a way to work off his debt and her ability to cook regular Japanese food well. The figure work is nicely done, particularly when we meet the nine-tailed fox demon. He can be an adorable child, a lovely woman, an attractive young man, or a fluffy animal. At least that gives us something cute to look at while he delivers a lot of exposition. The only reason to read this would be for the various beings and creative elements populating the demon world. (The publisher provided a digital review copy. Review originally posted at ComicsWorthReading.com.)

A nice change of pace from your run of the mill shojo manga, I am a definite fan of the anime from 2018. To give an idea of what you can expect throughout this series:*A strong young woman in her early 20s with some attitude and sense of responsibility as the protagonist as opposed to the usually blushy faced, ditsy, cutesy, petite highschool girl.*A very detailed and large selection of delicious looking Asian cuisine with some insight on how it’s made. The amount of new food that is continually featured is impressive.*Buisness etiquette on how a hotel and its employees operate in their departments.*Side characters of the hotel who all have some purpose of being in this series tying either into the main characters grandfather or the hotel owner.*A very imaginative fantasy setting and character designs.*A great establishment of the relationships between characters the more they interact with main protagonist Aoi.

I'm writing this before it gets to me but I know it's worth the purchase. I've seen the anime and it made me love it so much. These types of anime/manga are my favorite genre. It gave me kamisama kiss vibes and that totally sold me. I've previewed the manga and I love the story and the art. Some parts are cliche and have some typical troupes but I still love it.
