I was looking forward to M.J. Evans next book and I really enjoyed it. As with her Mist books, Ms. Evans takes you on a heart touching story of a boy and a horse. If your life has been touched by horses there are so many things you will relate to in this story. From the loving bond that forms between human and horse to the feeling of accomplishment and pride in having gained the trust of such a wonderful creature! If you have never had the personal opportunity to fall in love with a horse, you will be able to experience that through this story. Ms. Evans writings always have some great life lessons included and In the Heart of a Mustang certainly delivers several. A great read for all ages in my opinion!!

Man, this book was intense! This is the fifth fiction book MJ Evans has written, and was clearly it written for a slightly older audience than her previous fantasy adventures—young adult rather than middle grade. The story was powerful and covered themes such as forgiveness and redemption very effectively. As always, her writing was beautiful.Along with being an author, Evans is an avid equestrian and she expertly included this passion of hers in the book. There was fascinating detail about the wild horses of the American West and how to train them. You don’t have to be a horse person to love the book, but if you are, Evans' inclusion of these details is an extra bonus.

This enjoyable book is rich in many things. It fulfills our expectations, as we grow to care about Hunter, who uncover a litre that shakes his faith in his mother, farther, and, more importantly, himself. Not so much a coming of age story as one of self discovery, Hunter's journey behind in the seemingly bleak Arizona desert that he learns is rich with love. He behind to trust again, first his new mentor on the ranch that is his new home, and later himself, even as the house he is training and growing to love begins to trust him. It is a story of faults and forgiveness, of ourselves and others, that enriches even as it instructs.

It was fine but predictable. It is a nice horse story for pre teens and teens with a good message. Reminded me of My somewhat of Friend Flicka in that it’s a boy saves horse saves boy story. Flicka is a better written, more compelling story.

I loved reading this book! I love how the author captured the horse human connection, between the young boy and his mustang. I have witnessed the healing horses can bring at the Theapeutic ranch where I instruct, also called Promise Ranch! Carol Crisp

I loved this book and its heartwarming story! It's refreshing to read something with high moral values and upstanding characters who have to deal with real-life difficult problems, but overcome them through the love and support of other good people. I highly recommend it! It was a very enjoyable read, and I had a hard time putting it down.

Best book I've read in a long time. Made me cry, laugh and smile. Anyone who loves horses, anyone who has had trauma in their life. This book is for you. Faith, trust and love heals all and makes life worth living.
