First off, I love this series. I want to see it continue for a long time. But authors need criticism, readers should be critical, and some things have to be said. Spoilers below....The big reunion was pretty bad. It was too quick but the worst part was how it transitioned. I've seen a lot of bad transitions, and this one is somewhere at the top. Then the time lapse. As others have pointed out, an AI would have interfaced and known instantly upon coming back into range. It was a case of logic brushed under the rug that unfortunately is happening more and more in this series, which I'll touch on further down. Even their reactions seemed off. For something that was so hyped, and that I was looking forward to the most of anything after how the last book ended, it really disappointed. And then.... we hardly saw any of her friends, her team, other than Kate, for the rest of the book. Luke had some mentions.... Carlos and her had a brief but satisfying heart to heart..... Not enough, especially after the tone the last book ended on. Like they'd already moved on from her and they can't be bothered. It honestly felt like 2/3 of the book was missing; ripped out. And the part that there was DRAGGED. Really..... no one came for her when she was cut off from them and her AI, obviously making it an extremely perilous and unprecedented situation?!?! The last book ended with them emotional at her funeral, then discovering she was was still alive, just unable to return and in who knows what kind of situation..... Now she returns, is immediately thrust into a deadly serious situation, and...... they don't care enough to come for her no matter what. Nope, they have to be part of some humanitarian effort. As if there aren't hundreds of other supers to do that, and they don't owe everything they are to her.Epic may as well have taken a nap, it was not stated he was making any effort to help her. I remember in the first book when she was teleported and ever so briefly cut off from Epic, Amelia's highest priority was to get back in contact with Epic so he wouldn't be hacking everything on earth to find her as part of his crisis scenario. And when they regained contact he did seem panicked. It was satisfying. And that's ultimately my point. What made the earlier books so good? Amelia's struggles for one, yeah. To become strong. To gain acceptance. To find her parents. Nothing has ever replaced finding her parents. And nothing has ever really replaced how she was trying to find her place or make her place, or, okay, nothing that has enough emphasis. Now it just feels like one narrative after another she's being dragged around in, instead of her making the narrative or having a goal. What else? The relationships. They were great and real. Now most of them just feel like cardboard cutouts or they're passed over completely, or they're made into drama in a way that feels artificial. And Amelia's struggles? She had someone that was with her all the way, a partner, Epic. He doesn't feel like a partner so much as another tool in her kit now, and maybe moving outside her kit. Finally? The puzzles, the science, progression, plot, etc. The author did a great job of making us feel like we were right there in the middle of things. Last few books, it's started to feel more like we're outside all that looking in, and not in sync. The logic loopholes are a part of that. It seems like more and more is just being glossed over to advance whatever narrative is being pushed currently. Bad decisions made so the drama can continue, the heroine can get caught, things can drag on or be too neatly tied up....Lastly, about the downgrade in her 'arsenal.' Yep, it's unsatisfying. Be fine if there wasn't a lot else unsatisfying, though. But, it's necessary in my opinion. Where do you go from there that still leaves competition? Now we can get back to her workings things out and making new advancements again. And her tech being out there will keep things interesting back on Earth. It just.... could have been done better. The bracelet.... was really annoying......well! I guess I've said my piece. :-) Actually, there was good here, too. I did give it 4 stars, after all! Kate was portrayed well, which is good since she is such a big part of the book. The progression with her was nice. Annnnd I love the new character, Tia. Great character, good interactions, nice introduction, fits right in. Sorry for all the negativity! I've just come to care for this series a lot. ;-)EDIT: Additionally! Haha. It would be great if these vaunted fail-safes of hers work for once. With all her money and with all her tech, her unparalleled AI... she should have a lot better security and capabilities!

Books 1 and 2 were my favorite. Book 3, was okay. Book 4, back on track. Although not as good as the first two, it was definitely better than Book 3. Book 5, things get even better. I was a bit worried because, without giving away spoilers, initially, I didn't like the direction the story was headed. Fortunately, as the story progressed, I bought into it and ultimately loved it. She does not suit up for most of the novel. But, when she does...Epic (pun intended). I love that she is forced to face her enemies without her armor. She is essentially powered down (physically) but still finds a way to survive. And, I love the relationship between her and Kate. The addition of Tia rounds out an excellent 3 person team fighting to survive. I can't get enough of this series.

More than anything I can say is that the main threat in this book is much like in book two. Otherwise, despite what others thought I still found this to be a great read. Overall, it made sense that friends weren't as common a sight to see around Amelia in that they had over a year to come to turns with her absence all the while dealing with the fallout of the failed invasion and public favor turning against supers and their own personal lives. Also, it just as well makes sense that Epic didn't want to spoil her hopes on not much changing or that he focused on her getting home to prioritize syncing his internal clock.

This is the fifth book in the Arsenal series, and so far the author has managed to both up the ante and avoid a lot of the pitfalls of series writers (cliches, weaker and weaker plots, etc.). With each novel in the series, Haskell has taken risks, thrown curves, and expanded the Arsenalverse in different and unexpected directions. I like the series and continue to read it because the story continues to move forward and is never boring or ending in a way I could guess in advance. That is the mark of a good writer, and I like opening each installment so see what is going to happen next, because I am sure I won't see it coming.

I wish the author would slow down, hire an editor, and proofread! I enjoy this series BUT he has some factual errors, tons of typos, and so many sentence fragments that it's distracting. Great storyline, characters are interesting, and I hope the next one is more polished...

As usual, I love the characters, the stories, the intensity and pacing. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of any development or depth to the romantic sub-plot and relationship, especially as the issues within are touched on several times, so everyone is aware of them, yet no insights are offered.I have to admit that I'm truly getting frustrated with the cliffhangers, most especially because they are so quickly and seemingly easily resolved in the next book. The cliffhanger doesn't portend a major plot point and the opening of a new vista for the story, just a way to leave everyone dangling desperately for the next book. I have to admit: I am likely to stop buying these if that doesn't change.

Great story. Only portion I fail to understand and it seems to be a constant condition, why can the Hero not have a happy love life? It seems that they are always destined to lose, push away, or accidentally kill their partners. Here's a new angle, let the Hero have a happily ever after. Just a thought, guess I'm too much the optimist.

Been reading the series since the 1st book and I'm noticing a serious lack of content as the series goes on - speaking of which is this series ever going to end or is this going to be a continual soap opera kind of thing?Read the first 2 maybe three but unless you're ocd I'd recommend that being it. Personally bc I'm stubborn I'm giving it one more then I'll probably regret that......
